The first born in my family is very smart, but none of us are slackers. There are four of us. The oldest and the youngest were the two who didn't really have to study to understand things and do well. The middle two had to study hard, but they did and always did well.

I think the first born frequently gets more attention from the parents. No competition. It may contribute to an increase in I.Q.

I'm the oldest and I think it depends on what level you're meaning. I mean, my younger sister gets better grades at school than I did but she doesn't seem to have much common sense. Where as I have and I seem very mature for my age even though I'm not the brightest tool in the box lol.

LOL
yes he's pretty smart, but not as smart as me!
(just kidding)
I'd say it had more to do with maturity than smarts. I have 6 siblings and all of them are smart, some can do stuff that I would never be able to do - like build houses. But they can't do what I can do - like draw and write well.
Some are more mature than others, and some pursue things like current events and other education (we're all over 40 now). My oldest brother (the oldest) and myself are the one's who seem to keep up with the current events and other reading.

I am the eldest but each of us is smart and successful in her way. My 2 sisters are brilliant and have achieved a lot being still 25 and 23.

smarter is a relevant word here and i know what the pecking order dictates, but in response, no, but theres about 6 yrs between me and my older brother, so in sense there is 2 oldest.
were all intelligent in my family, all in different areas and ways.

I'm an only child, at least as far as I'm concerned. I have some half brothers and sisters, but they're all messed up in one way or another.

I'm pretty smart, if you ask me.
