Well, I've just read in the papers that the social services have destroyed a normal family because there were some fractures on one of the kids' thighs (or the whole leg?). The social services accused the parents saying it must have been caused by them. So they took all 3 children away from them (the other two had no problems). They are carrying out some medical tests to check whether the kid has some problem processing calcium or something, which gives him brittle bones. The kids have now all been adopted. So if this perfectly normal family (who weren't neglecting their kids) could be punished so severely, why can't the McCanns be punished for their even more irrisponsible action?

I am unsure how to answer. I don't know. On one hand I don't think they deserve to be parents but on the other hand you would be ripping apart a family removing their kids. I know what they did was unforgivable and constitutes neglect which is, in point of fact, a category of child abuse.
However the crime was not committed in the UK and as such the authorities have no jurisdiction. They can however place the McCann under a supervision order or put their kids on the at risk register.
They do not seem to believe that they did anything wrong, however as I have previously stated I believe that they unwittingly admitted their mistake by lying to the police about the times they checked on their kids. Why lie if you know you're in the right?
Regardless of the outcome I think Social Services should become involved with the family in a supervisory and supportive capacity if only to avoid this situation happening again. A parenting course for Kate and Gerry might also be a good idea.

I have never been a parent McCann sympathiser however yes, I do think if Madeleine is found she should be returned to her parents. I would definitely want some intervention from social services to monitor the parents just to make sure Madeleine and her siblings are not put in any more dangerous situations. I believe what they did warrants the children being placed on the 'at risk register'.
I don't believe taking the children aware from the McCanns is the best way forward for any of the children. Of course the parents need to be prosecuted for neglect and monitored that goes without saying and parenting classes would be beneficial.

Yes, they should get her back. They are her parents and they love her and she loves them.
I just cannot get my head around the fact that so many McCann bashers on here are going on as though the worst thing that happened to Madeleine McCann was that her parents left her in her room.
OF COURSE IT WAS WRONG OF THEM TO LEAVE HER ALONE WHEN THERE WAS AN ABDUCTOR ABOUT but then, you know I really think that if they had known that they wouldn't have done it. Don't you?
The bad thing that happened was that she was abducted. She should be home with her parents and you should get out more.
As for not admitting they did anything wrong, how do you know that? Are they accountable to you? No, of course not. Nor are they accountable to Dave S or CT or to anyone else who has no legitimate involvement in the case.

I expect they would get her back, and be overjoyed. However there is valid point here. I have raised five children and would never have dreamed of leaving them unattended at that age, especially just so I could swan off to a restaurant. If you have children you have a duty to look after them all the time. Popping in every half an hour is failing in that duty.
If this had happened to some poor, single mother she would have been vilified in the press. However when it occurs to a middle class family . . .

I have children. Their welfare was our prime directive. We took than on when we became parents - part of the job like the Hypocratic Oath!
On holiday, we had days together on the beach/sightseeing, ate early, the children went to bed and we stayed home & talked/planned the next day. Never once were our children left alone while we lived a separate part of our lives. I think the McCann family should be put on the "at risk" list and under a supervisory order till the children are grown. If Maddie is returned - a bonus! but I don't think they will find her now. I hope to God I'm wrong.

Firstly you need to think what would be better for Madeline.
After all Madeline would have been through would it really be wise to give her to another lot of strangers?
Also putting into care wouldn't benefit Madeline being sent from 1 lot of strangers to the next.
I agree that what Madeline's parents did was absolutely disgusting but i do believe this would never happen again and i think it would be in Madeline's best interest to be given back to her parents.
This is assuming they will ever find her.
I hope to god they do find her but she could be any where right now.

I don't believe that Maddie is still alive. I hope to God that she is, but I just think the odds are against her. I know that there have been quite a few 'sightings' but they are purely based on a snap glance from joe public.
If she is alive, the McCanns will get her back. Although I don't agree with them leaving their children, I don't doubt that they are actually good parents, will learn from this whole ordeal, and as you have said.... never leave their kids alone again!

I really dont understand why so many people believe that the MaCanns children should be taken away and fostered. My dad was in an orphanage for a year or so when he was 2, and it was a horrible experience for him.
Isnt it obvious that the MaCanns love thier children, and that they have suffered enough? I don't justify them leaving thier children alone, but its not for us to judge them.
