I was wondering if there was a way to create custom plates (dishes) so I could put a picture on the plates or words (it's a gift). Is there anyy kind of special paper I could use on a blank plate, or a website I could go to that has a guide to do so?

Thanks!

I once made some Christmas plates. All you have to do is buy some clear plates (we got ours for only $2 each). Then get some cute fabric. Put a layer of decoupage (like Mod Podge) on the bottom of the plate. Place the fabric on the bottom of the plate over the decoupage layer so that looking from the bottom of the plate you see the negative side. Looking from the top, you should see the patterned side. Then cut around the edges of the material so they line up with the edges of the plate. Then put another decoupage layer over the fabric. You could probably paste some pictures and/or letters onto the fabric before you set it on the plate. Also, tell the gift receiver not to wash the plate in the dishwasher and if they handwash it, only wash the plate side not the fabric side. It's also a nice idea if you put some goodies on the plate like cookies, cupcakes, a small cake, or any other yummy treat.

you could make a plate to just be looked at or place a clear glass plate over it to eat from, unless you do ceramics and can find a way to turn the photo into a ceramic decal you cant make it to be eaten off of directly. you could use paint pens and you could decopage the phtoto onto a decorative plate to hang on the wall, or to put under a glass plate and still it would need good sealer over the photo to make it waterproof for any sort of washing.

You could go to a ceramic shop and ask if there is a way to do a transfer print. There are also services who do it for you on china, which is more durable but not possible to make at home.

Or you can paint a decorative plate and just make it clear that it is not for eating. You would present it with a wall hanger.
