You need to look at core clock speed, pixel pipelines, memory speed, and memory interface. Amount of memory comes in fifth, after those other four. If this gets too confusing, simply find benchmarks such as the ones I provide.

First of all you need to have a budget......if you are really eager then a Geforce 8800 ultra is the top of the line....a waste of money.....

The main things to look for are:

bits
on board memory (512 min these days)
piplelines

it depends on your requirement...i mean are you a Graphic designer, a Hardcore gamer, a Flash Animator,etc...that reqiures a high performance graphic card...
