an old wife's tale-when you get cold or wet/cold in winter your body will get sick. fact- we get sick from viruses and such we catch. so baby will not get sick from bath time, however he/she may start to get skin irritation from so many baths. ask your Dr, but i believe every other night to just a few times a week is recommended for the first year
best wishes

A bath every night is fine, in fact it is actually recomended as part of baby's bedtime routine. There are steps you can take to keep baby's skin soft and smooth. After bath, use a baby lotion and give him(?) a baby massage. Babies that are massaged before bed actuall sleep diffwerently then those who are not. There are many nerve ending just below the skin, and the gental massage of the ending helps release "sleep endorphins." Babies who are massaged go to deep sleep for longer, and have there REM cycle around 7 hours into sleep, giving about 9-10 hours total. Non massaged babies take longer to reach deep sleep, and come out of it around 4-5 hours in, only giving about 7-8 hours total. I would be willing to bet, if you asked how to get your baby to sleep longer, or anything about a routine, all these answers would read to give him a bath as a part of the routine, which would be every night. Winter baths will not make baby sick, and a bath everyday will not lead to skin problems. Proper care after the bath can prevent these things from happening. Just make sure your home is nice and warm, and massage baby with baby lotion after bath. If your baby is a boy who was not circumsized, I would really recomend at least a little tub time every night to allow the water to really clean under the forskin (just dont pull it back) This will keep him from developing an odd oder down there. Have fun with the little one, they grow up so fast!

I dont see how it could. Maybe have the heater on once you take your baby out of the bath. I bath my 5 month old every night too...no halm done, so people just try and put you down at your mothering skills all the time, dont listen. You do whats best for your baby.

either your friend is very nieve or just justifying why her child is not bathed every night. I have six children all almost grown and they got baths every night and a cereal bottle before going to bed. They slept all night and were never afraid of water and pools. That my dear is a huge myth. My kids are healthy as horses and we are in Philly (winter wise) Go with your instinct. It will be right. Good luck

Sickness is caused by germs and bacteria not cold!!!! My daughter is 8 months old and I too bathe her every night. I think that it is a good idea just because of the routine aspect of it and it also helps her to sleep better throught he night. I find it very neccisary for my daughter to be bathed every night just because of the fact she is a chunky little girl(LOL) and she gets sweaty and I think that it would be uncomfortable for her to try and go to bed all sticky and sweaty!!

There were stories recently in Australian media that babies don't need to be bathed every night, as they don't (generally speaking) get that dirty during the day, and that over-bathing dries out their skin. I don't know if this has any relation to what your friend is talking about.

i don't know about that, although i would assume that its because they are wet and cold more often than they have to be. it is bad for there skin to bath them every night they don't have the amount of oil on there skin as adults but you can just give you baby a nice baby massage after bath time to fix that. and only wash his/her face and hair every other day
