Are my boobs the right size, should I dye my hair blonde (two questions I just saw the past five minutes). Are you people serious? What's with the obsession? There's more to life. You are all acting like Rico duplicates??

Yes there is more to life, but have you noticed that many people are insecure and just need a little affirmation that they are " normal" or some reinforcement that they are attractive.
I have noticed the majority of posters in this section are young teens and adolescents, who hasn't been self- conscious at this age?
Before one assumes that everyone is obsessed with their looks keep in mind perspective and how feeling good about how you look helps you to feel better about yourself and life in general, its a beauty comes from within concept.
True looks are FAR from the most important things in life, yet sometimes it takes a little help to guide people to realize this and some " positive " support. Happy you posted this question, since similar thoughts often run through my mind when I read posts like you mentioned, but then I realize who is posting and most likely why.

People are obsessed with their looks because no matter how people would like to think that they are non judgmental, I can tell you that most of you are. And by being judgmental about others causes them to over analyze themselves.

As an overweight girl, I am made to feel uncomfortable in most of my surroundings. When shopping in the mall with my thin sister, I get looks going into the stores with all the cute thin people clothes. We women read magazines that are filled with thin beautiful people with cute clothes. We are made to believe that there is one image that is beautiful. Thin is the only good body type. I will probably never be thin. And I am trying to deal with that, but even though I am aware that this is wrong, I still feel bad about the way I look.

Body obsession is sadly completely normal. But to be honest, heavy and fat in the magazines wouldn't sell as much. Even with celebrities. When celebrities put on a little bit of weight, they are ripped to shreds in magazines and on the internet. In a world like this, how can we help but be body obsessed?

I hate to say it but where have you been all your life?
That's what our sad world resolves around, beauty & fashion and being anorexic. Dont get me wrong i feel everyone needs to make an effort with there appearance but, when it comes to spending hundreds, even thousands on your appearence thats going to far.
But i dont think the world will ever get a reality check due to the emphases put on this subject, but at the end of the day if you have a strong character then you dont have to follow like a dog...

Looks are important - they're one of the first ways other people know about you - and we're social animals we humans who need other people.

Also - the younger we are the more we obsess with our looks - and the younger we are the more likely we are to have the time and inclination to hang around on Yahoo Answers all the time.

For good or ill this ain't the world!

Good day

I think people do it becuase one of the human goals in life is to find a mate. Most people depend on a person by their cover before knowing the story within that person.

They are just trying to get attention from people I guess you can say....

I agree with you - pretty will always be pretty -- but i hate it if people are beautiful and they so obviously know it and they think if they sit down the sun sets - and real beauty is from within
