do you buy movie scores? i'm not talking about soundtracks... a soundtrack is defined as pre-existing music that is used in a film... or a stand alone song that is used in a film. the score is the music that is created specifically for the film usually by a composer to add to a scene. some say that a good score is one that you don't notice. would you agree or disagree?

I actually like paying attention to the score in movies, but I never buy the CD.

You can always tell an 80s movie by the score. The "cool" movies used a lot of saxophone. Horror movies today like to use string instruments, like the cello or violin. And you can always tell a Danny Elfman score because he uses a lot of bass instruments.

Sometimes, the score is just so obvious or over-dramatic that it makes me laugh. And that's never good, especially when it takes you out of a serious moment in the movie.

On TV, I like how characters often have certain music or sounds that are unique to them. Like in Heroes, Sylar has the sound of a ticking clock in his music, while Mohinder has this really cool Indian sounding music. Now, if Heroes came out with a score, that might be one I would buy.
