i am working with starved air incinerator for my project . so can any one please tell me what is starved air condition. how it should be maintained

This type of unit is used for making Charcoal from wood in the open air. It uses partial combustion to drive off volatiles from the wood. It is maintained by heaping turf or soil around the incineration.
It is also used to produce CO from carbon fuels and is hence a very dangerous type of combustion. It is maintained by measuring the CO2 level in the exhaust gas and reducing the air intake, and the furnace temperature and increasing the air (O2) intake respectively.
