Well, i ever asked this question before, and i got shot down really bad by all the answers that says im dumb and that of course its physically possible especially if "you're 6'8 and up"...

Well havent you heard of earl the goat maingault and david thompson? they replied...

well of course ive heard of them but they are nothing but rumours!!!...

So i did some research and the top of the backboard is 13 feet. For intro, theres also a video of james white trying to touch the backboard( he wasnt able to do so but got close ) and of course dwight howard who reach 12'6 inches in the sticker dunk...

well so i got the results from this year's combine, take the highest standing reach( greg oden at 9'4 and add up his highest vertical leap at 34 inches )...Lo and behold i got a total of 12'2...if he was to reach 13 feet he should have a max vert of 44 inches...not unheard of but you need a nate robinson;s jumping ability( measured at 43.5 inches ) and the standing reach of greg oden…well so there you go, maybe just maybe theres one or two guys in the world who have insane height and jumping ability to be able to touch it, but I don’t see how in the world David Thompson and earl the goat or for the matter lebron were able to do so…any comments will be appreciated…

I know for a fact Wilt Chamberlain could do it. Also Ralph Sampson. Not sure about shorter dudes. Heck I could get within 12-15 inches of it and I'm a 6'8" guy with a mediocre vertical.

Yeah it is physically possible. I remember watching Lebron in a clip doing the same thing as you mentioned, getting the quarter of the top of the backboard. Yeah, sounds impossible.

I can't remember who - but I believe either Larry Nancy or Ralph Sampson used to pick pennies off the top of the back board. Nance was 6"11" with a crazy vertical jump and Sampson was 7'4" and could jump very well

Look up Dwight Howrad on You Tube. He did it this past season against the Spurs for the game winning dunk

Shaq and Kobe could both do it when they were younger. And Dwight Howard did it in the slam dunk competition
