There is a Jazz musician called Norman Brown. He did use vocals on a song called "I might". I love it. I hope you do too. I like Vocal Jazz.

I think that Groove Armada have done a great job by bridging modern dance and jazz and suddenly a lot of people are becoming aware of jazz as a form of music. If you combine this with the effect of the Robbie swing album and the Rod Stewart American Songbook albums, you start to get a generation who are seeing swing/jazz as a credible form of music, which was largely not the case in the rock dominated times of the 70s and 80s. It remixes great with a modern backbeat. Work backwards from today, by listening to firstly some good funk/jazz, Tower of Power would be a good start, and then listen to some of the great jazz vocalists of yesteryear. Ella Fitzgerald/Billie Holiday/Dinah Washington and Nina Simone would be a good start and the Rat Pack always stand a listening. Piano Jazz...try Bill Evans or Ahmad Jamal. Two things, feed jazz into limewire and see what comes out. Secondly, go on soundclick.com, which is a free music site of new music with all genres of jazz and see what's new that suits you. good luck.

Just depends what sort of Jazz/Swing you are after, some examples, could it be Mainstream, Big band (Swing), Dixieland, or Blues, a lot of Jazz can be downloaded for free on Blubster. Bands that you could try and are on Blubster as follows:-
Benny Goodman, Harry James, Glenn Miller, Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Fletcher Henderson, Count Basie, Duke Ellington,
Miles Davies, Chris Barber, Humphrey Lyttleton, and you could listen to a variety of Jazz tunes on the Boston Pete Radio station.
Good Luck with your search and enjoy, hope you get what you are looking for.

Terrence Blanchard's Quintet, Wallace Roney, Geri Allen,
Brad Meldau Trio, Doug Wamble,Eric Alexander Quintet, any outing led by Ron Carter, Russell Malone, Bobby Hutcherson or Regina Carter, under-rated vocalists Carla Cook and Rene Marie, Canadian jazz pop blend Molly Johnson, Ethiopian singer Ejigayehu Shibabaw (GiGi) not really a jazz singer but her self titled cd featured some great work by Herbie Handcock, Wayne Shorter and Pharoah Sanders ,real legends in this field. Nevermind the Bullocks
above. Don't pay any attention to pookheads who just post negative comments on subjects they don't a rat's booty about.

Miles Davis is the best. Dave Brubeck, Duke Ellington, Spyro Gyra are also good places to start. A more modern group would be Medeski, Martin and Wood. You might also enjoy Groove Collective. They throw a little hip-hop into some of their music.

Go to "garageband.com". It is a site for musicians to up-load their music for free. There are many different genres there but I stay in the jazz area and I am constantly amazed by the quality of music available for FREE downloading! There is music for sale there, but you can listen for days to find out what you like first. There are many categories within the jazz genre. Just give everything a listen until you find out what you like. "Amazon.com" lets you hear short selections off a CD so you can get an idea of what you like, but "garage" lets you hear, and sometimes download, the entire song! It is a good way for the musicians to get feedback on their work.
