I am appalled at the amount of media attention a white person receives when they are missing or presumed dead.

When African-American individuals are reported missing, their cases rarely make the local news, let alone national!

It is absolutely imperative, every missing persons case receive equal amount of coverage, regardless of skin color.

In this country, racism is alive & well!

Double-standards are common-place in the good ole USA.

All my life, I've been told,: "The USA is the Great American Melting Pot," but as I face reality daily, it is evident, that recipe does not include people of color!

If racial issues are not confronted in North America, there will be an onslaught of Don Imuses coming out of their "racist closets"
in droves.

People often shun this topic, because it is taboo!

I've noticed this too. Absolutely true. And the prettier the Caucasian woman, the better. How many really plain women get the media spotlight like Lacy Peterson, etc.?

Thousands of people turn out to look for these kind of women. Meanwhile no one even knows about missing black women. And massive searches? Not gonna happen.

This is a complete injustice. Thanks for bringing it up.

You are absolutely correct. However it not only is only white people, it is only SOME white people. I believe you have to be white AND blonde (which leaves my family out). Oh yes, don't forget if you are missing your family has to look good on TV too. So, even if I was white AND blonde and missing, someone in my family could blow it by not photographing well. Oh yes, it also helps if you have money.

My friend, all sorts of discrimination is alive and well here in the good old U.S.A.

P.S. Sorry had to come back and edit. Being white, I would like to apologize for the first two answers that you received. However I know I do not need to apologize because you are smart enough to not lump one racial group into the same category as these posters did.

Unfortunately, the majority of people in charge in the media be it TV, radio, or Newspaper, etc are white & even though they don't consider themselves to be "racist" they pretty much turn a deaf ear to a story of a person of color when they are missing, untill someone makes a lot of noise about it. Usually much time has passed & it is then almost impossible too gather evidence to put together a case & the hope of finding this person is pretty slim. If we could only realize that no what what our skin color, we are all human beings who have a right to life & have someone who loves us, perhaps things might change. I always try to put myself in the place of the other person & consider how they might feel & then act accordingly.

Thank God to Nancy Grace, and Anderson Cooper this is changing. I am white, but I have wondered why. I know of a murder of a young black girl in New York, raped and murdered & then stuffed into the outside garbage cans in front of apartment building. Nancy & Anderson has given coverage more than once. This child's murder had to be seen by someone, that is a busy location, this child was in garbage bags. Which makes you mad as ----!!!

I noticed that Nancy Grace ran a stream of names, ages
and when they disapeared, a tribute to all Missing Children about a week or two ago.And America's Most Wanted is doing the same thing, for all children.

I am going to simply ignore the previos statement and simply say this: The reporting of missing people, no matter the person's race, needs to be balanced and fair in all aspects. There are a lot of topics in America that go unspoken that need to be addressed. If or when they will be dealt with, that's another story from another day.

its because you people (yeah i said it) never accept responsibility for anything. You always want to blame some white person somewhere for your shortcomings. ie: blacks recieve poor education b/c they get less money from schools. Not because daddy is gone and mommy teaches kid that its alright to fight over anything and skip school. Mommy only disciplines the child when it annoys her and gets in her way. She never encourages kid to succeed in school or beats his butt for coming home with D's. You get to go to any school you want, without any competition, and with all the scholarships and grants available it cost much less than a whites education. Black leaders never condemn the high rate of divorce and single parenting. They never condemn the rap music that is degrading to black men and women. No matter what crime a black commits, blacks show up to support that person. You people are the most racist because you would rather support the person that is black instead of the person that is right. You all fail to realize that over half of white americans fought to free you all in the civil war. They did not have to do this. they did not have to stand up against people of their own color and die for what they fealt was right. This is something you will never see the black community do. How many times have you seen jesse jackson or al sharpton speak up against a black man? they are race mongers. Why have blacks become so racist compared to the earlier 20th century, when it is obvious that things are substantially better? You never want to admit that blacks are capable of racism, so you will probably deny this. People will start following don imus because they are getting sick and tired of handing you everything, only to be spit at. In conclusion, name one place in the world where blacks live a better life and have a lower poverty rate than the USA. Every single country that is black governed is in shambles. Please prove me wrong. Double standards are definitely inplace. If you have to pull thru the drive thru and wait in the parking lot for your chicken sandwich, while the white person behind you gets his hamburger and leaves, you shout racism. Why can't I do that? You aren't mad about racism because blacks are more racist as a whole than any other ethnic group. You are mad because you are in the minority and can't practice wide spread racism on everyone else.

White people are more important. Remember who pays the taxes to feed you. And supplies the money for police to control crime in your hoods. And also white families will pay for media coverage to find missing persons and even come up with rewards without government help.

So what's wrong with Don Imus.He tells the truth. Blacks and Hispanics are what is ruining this country. You don't see white people getting free food or medical. There expected to work for a living.
