My boyfriend is playing spider man 3 on his xbox 360. He can't beat this one mission, and he keeps getting pissed. He is yelling at the tv and cusing. Why do guys take video games so seriously? I don't get it. IT'S JUST A GAME!

That is because I heard spiderman 3 is a bad game with faulty camera angles.
It is the same with us about shoes. They are just shoes!

It's not that we take them seriously, it's just that winning is...let's just say...extremely important. Though it is just a game, the whole idea of seeing yourself die in a game or seeing the Game Over screen is sometimes just as heartbreaking as losing a sports game to an opposing team. The only difference in video games is that you're potentially given infinite chances at the challenge, and yet it might still be extremely difficult and "impossible" to beat. Yelling at the TV is just a way to vent frustration.

Personally, I play these games for the Challenge. When I confront a Challenge which I seem unable to beat, I become frustrated. Not with the game, but with my own inability to overcome it. It sounds to me that your Boyfirend is projecting his blame not upon himself, but upon the game, which turns not to Learning, adapting, and self-improvement, but anger and rage.
With Avid to Hard-core gamers, no, It's not just a game. It's a Challenge, an obstacle to be overcome. Amongst the gaming community, only the Casual ones can say 'It's just a game' and walk away.

I take it that you yourself are not an Avid gamer, so I can see why it would be hard to comprehend these things.

As a female who games, I understand the frustration of not being able to get past a level. Just because it's a game, doesn't diminish the frustration from the inability to do something.

Why do some women get upset if their hair doesn't look right or if they chip a nail? It's just your appearance.

WOMEN PLAY GAMES TOO!!
sorry, as a female gamer i hate that steryotype

relate it to you getting frustrated because you cant get your hair or makeup just right. to people not interested in that stuff its just hair, who cares? but to you it might be a big deal

- edit, haha thats what i get for leaving a half finished answer for 5 minutes, the person above me says the exact same thing :)

I dunno, why do women take their wardrobe or makeup so seriously?
It's just a hobby, and it can get frustrating.
Besides, saying that it applies to all men is stereotyping. Just like my saying the wardrobe and makeup thing applies to all women.
