Holding forever.
Holding Hands
Watching the old couple
walking hand in hand,
two steadfast friends,
many years of love,
sharing life
for better
for worse
now holding on to each other
not wanting to lose
that precious anchor.
Their hands find each other
automatically,
a perfect fit,
in harmony familiar
like they were always
together
their warmth
their feel
their rhythmic embrace
forgetful of the first shy kiss
they introduced.
In youthful innocence
that first touch
so hesitant
so electric
explored
the magnetism
the thrill
of new-found love.
The old, familiar hands
were once strangers
were once awkward
were once timid
experiencing new textures

instruments of the heart.
Their hands,
worn of work and care,
have earned a living

have waved goodbye

have held on

rest now in the comfort
of each other.

I'd hold your hand and be there for you. I'd listen and try to help you in any way that I can. You never walk out on a friend.

If it wouldn't be too presumptuous of me I would hold your hand, as you took me around to introduce me to your friends here and I would be with you in times of trouble and need. I would never let you go but would be strong for you when you no longer thought you could be.
