No. Mostly when the origin of a word is traced back to an acronym, it's false. (e.g. the old chestnut about "f*ck" being "fornication under consent of the king" etc). "Wog" was in use for several hundred years and is found at the end of "golliwog" in texts way back in the 18th century. Acronyms, on the other hand, didn't really get used until the first world war.
Also, "wog" is usually used to refer to black people, who are clearly not "oriental".
You'd best go and punch the guy in the mouth.

Well there are various theories and thats all they are. When I was a wee lad back in the mid fifties my eldest brother who was in the RN and one particular time he came back from overseas he explained to me that WOG meant Westernised Oriental Gentleman. True or not as the original?...I dont know.No one site/dictionary has the right to claim their version is the original because everything is based on current knowledge which after all, changes weekly annualy.

No, it isn't true. My OED lists "origin unknown". Be suspicious of any claimed acronym from before WWII. There were a few but not many and hardly any have come from before the 20th century. The term "wog" was used of Middle Eastern people extending into India and north Africa where the word "nig*er" took over. "Oriental" was used to describe the Chinese, and Japanese and other "celestials". Wogs were never oriental.

Yes, it is true. old chap. It is NOT against the law under the "Gentleman's Moustache Act" of 1874 due to the fact that the authorities could not invoke sufficient punishment for such a crime. The Act clearly states (and is still in force today) that a gentleman so insulted has the right to demand a pistol duel at dawn and also be exempted from any consequential laws governing the death of the perpetrator following such a duel.
