Even though Dirk had a pretty tarnished playoff history, I'd still pick Nowitzki. The NBA finals MVP is a competition of the best players on two teams while the regular season MVP award is a competition between the best player on every team in the NBA. Plus, winning the most games in the regular season in comparison to winning 4 games in the finals is more longer and dreadful task.

This is Dirk Nowitski problem: He is a 7 foot tall guy whose primary threat is outside shooting. This is kind of like having a slow sports car or a pick up truck that struggles to haul 100 pounds of cement mix.
Dirk needs to become a 7 foot tall guy that can shoot jump shots too. He is 7 feet tall and basically worthless inside because he is always outside the key on offense. Defensively he's no Bill Russell either. He needs to tear down his offensive game and start all over if he ever wants anything besides individual awards.
Tony Parker is totally different. He is a traditional point guard that plays point guard in the manner that it should be played. He is actually able to get to the basket better than Dirk which speaks volumes for the disparity in ability between these two albeit Parker is more effective as a result of speed and not size. These attributes, in fact contributes to the Spurs success as opposed to Dirk's role which can be a handicap at times in certain situations.
Ultimately, it is easier to figure out how to use Parker because he is a "traditional" player. Dirk is like having a lowered Hummer on custom rims. Yeah, it looks cool but how useful is it?
Peace.

Stat wise Dirk looks good on paper. he even fooled the voting body to pick him as 2007 MVP but its no longer a coincidence that he CHOKED during the playoffs over the last two years.
I would have to say Parker is the better player becasue he comes up big in the clutch as evidenced by his MVP performance in the recently concluded NBA Finals.

nowitzki is better, y? because he's the biggest part/reason of the success of the mavericks. he's their best player in the team. no dirk, dallas will be on lot of trouble winning. yes he did choke on some of the their biggest game. but hey other players do also. (lbj)
for tony, yes he's good. but the reason they won the championship or rather get to that level is because of tim duncan.

Yes. Parker carried his team to the finals, and his team won their fourth championship. Parker also didn't choke in the finals like Nowitzki did last year.

I think they are both really good and both very talented players.
But if I was to actually choose one or the the other, I would choose Tony Parker. I like his playing style a little better.
