You don't have to celebrate if you don't want to, and just because Yahoo has a space for the rest of us celebrating Gay Pride Day doesn't mean Yahoo is trying to MAKE you celebrate it with us.
I keep hearing that shrill cry from the fundies, every time being Gay is even mentioned, "OMG the SOCIALISTS and GODLESS ATHIESTIC COMMUNISTS and trying to FORCE us to be GAY!" Yeah, sure, whatever, it's Plan 9 from the UN, right? I've heard that line too. And then every time someone in political office wants to introduce hate crime legislation, off the fundies go again, crying to high heaven their rights are being taken away, RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION IN AMERICA!! Today the gay/new age/socialist world order is cracking down on your God given right to hate and abuse people, tomorrow it's gulags in Nevada for Christians. The line must be drawn here!

1st, it is more than just One Day, it's usually a couple of days or a week of events... since all of us gays want to attend as many of these events as possible, cities generally stagger them around the entire month of June (there's only so many parties you can goto in a wknd!) lol
Yahoo, like any other money making venture- wants to capitalize on as many markets as possible! Since the charm would quickly wear off celebrating day in and day out of Str8 Pride 2007 (since it is every day of the year)- it's not really that marketable, people would soon ignore it, would become bland, and just another day....nobody would 'click' on anything to generate traffic ---unless it had to do with porn, we've ALL already clicked on that one.
Str8 ppl really didnt have to 'overcome' anything...I take that back, they overcame the right to divorce.... but basically everything else has been handed legally to them. Pride is about recognizing that your community has stood the test of time, has slowly rcvd rights that others enjoy, and makes us stronger in unity. None of those things really apply to str8's, no need to celebrate what you've always had.
Str8 Pride would probably generate a protest or two (from those who want to make a name for themselves in the legal/political system) ...but the rest of us, Gay and Straight, would think it was silly-- or just plain loose interest. Yahoo would, I'm sure, LOVE us to Celebrate 'Str8 Pride Day' everyday...but darn it, the Str8's just havent come up with a good logo or color scheme yet :-)

You can have a Straight Pride Day on any of the other 364 days of the year. Why can't gay people, who make up getting on for 10% of the population, have one day out of 365? If things were at all fair in this world we should have 36 gay pride days each year and 37 in leap years.

You know, it is exactly because of this attitude why there is Gay Pride Days. The more whining and complaining you do, the more there will be a need for Gay Pride Days.
Why such an elitist? Why do Straight people need a "Pride"Day when they feel they are better than Gays every single day of the year. It is LGBT Folk who have to deal with low self-esteem because of the ostracizing, persecution, and degradation by Straights we have had to deal with all of our lives. How many Straights have been physically bashed by Gays? How many Straights have been fired from a job by a Gay person? How many Straights have been thrown out of their parents houses for being Heterosexual? How many Straights have denied Marriage by Gay people? How many Straights have been excommunicated from their church by a Gay Counsel? How many Straights have been denied Hospital visitation rights by a gay administrator? How ,any times has a Gay President try to amend the constitution to ban Heterosexual Marriages completely?
