I'm a college student and its my summer vacation. I'm looking to get into reading something new. I've read the Harry Potter books and Dan Brown's, but I'm looking for something new. I'm interested in anything..except romance. Anyone have any authors or books that I MUST read...maybe life changing? Thanks.

I would strongly recommend tom Clancy and read them in the order they were written because some of the are sequential. Clancy writes technothriller. The first book is The Hunt For Red October. Don't start it until you have time to finish it. You won't want to put it down. the book is LIGHT YEARS better than the movie.

I can also heartily recommend Isaac Asimov. He wrote a LOT of novels, most in series. His genre is science fiction. The first series I think was the Galactic Empire. He also wrote the Foundation trilogy, the robot novels, and some others. Again, read them in the order they were published.

For a good mystery, John Sandford's "prey" novels are great. I really like Lucas Davenport, his recurring hero. The first book is Rules of Prey.

I also really like the fiction of W.E.B. Griffin. He writes series as well. The first is The Brotherhood of War. They aren't about war but about people, their lives and careers. He does phenomenal character development. I feel like they're my friends.

Enjoy!

I like to take summer vacations to catch up on my fiction reading, and some novels I've got on my list are:

Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz by Mordecai Richler
Animal Farm by George Orwell

Now, I understand not everyone enjoys reading heavier literature during their summer - so I'd check out anything by John Green, Ian McEwan, and Jane Urquhart. I've loved reading their work in summers past!

Essentially, I believe that any book you're interested in is one you should read - when are you going to have this much spare reading time again? Take advantage of it!

A romantic adventure story steeped in the history of India is "The Far Pavilions" by M.M. Kaye.

How about an urban thriller.

Think, bad -boy bikers.

It's a fast paced read, with loads of action.
