Worst case scenario?

After putting too much oil into my new lawn mower, I saw on the dipstick where it says 'do not overfill'--oh god! Now what?

I'm sure you haven't harmed you mower yet. Don't panic. Just follow these simple steps.

1. Remove you gas cap and place a ziplock bag or other plactic over the fill neck an reinstall the gas cap. (you just created a rubber seal that will keep gas from dripping out, because the gas cap "breaths", when you turn the mower on its side)

2. Turn the mower on its side and locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the motor. It will usually look like a little sqaure plug. Carfully remove the plug with a pair of plyers. Be carefull not to slip and cut youself on the blade.

3. Once plug is removed, tilt the mover back onto it's wheel providing a small pan (under the lawnmower) for the oil to drain into. Wait 2-3 mins for all the oil to drain from the motor.

4. Put mower back on its side and replace the oil drain plug. Then stand mower upright again.

5. Remove the plastic you installed in step on.

6. Slowly refill the oil on the mower, giving small breaks, allowing time for the oil to run to the bottom of the engine. Watch the dipstick carefully and stop filling when the oil reaches the "safe" zone.

Simple, just drain some of the oil out. There will be a drain plug on the bottom of the motor. You could just set the mower on its side and drain some out. That would be the easiest way. good luck.

there is a drain plug for draining that excess oil. unthread it and drain a little til its level reaches the prescribed
