Whilst attending to my laundry the other morn, I looked down to see one of those jumpy looking ones and you know what? I let it go without killing it only to later discover that it had bitten me.

I am not afraid of tarantulas or spiders but do respect them. My pets are Mexican Red knee Tarantulas, wonderful, very friendly. Spiders serve a useful purpose.
People are afraid of anything faster or scarier than we are!
You ever notice, a spider, the size of a pea, has got to be squashed with a shoe, more than once, or it is not dead-even though it is already unrecognizable after one swat.

Many people are afraid of small creatures that creep, scurry, or crawl. And since there is more of them than there is of us, people tend to be scared.
People are also afraid of what they don't know - and therefore tend to either destroy it, ignore it, or make it seem less fearsome however they can...

Because you hear about spider's being poisonous and their appearance can be intimidating to some and beautiful to others.

omg!!! i got bit by one two days ago and i had to go to the ER and now i am on meds until it goes away, maybe that's why i am scared!
