Whilst there may be a rational explanation for so called paranormal phenomena there are a number of things you can do to test whether you may have a ghost in your house. Some simple tests you can do: Candle Test Light a candle (can be during the day). Make sure that all windows are closed and there are no drafts. Soon afterwards you may notice that it will flicker and dance. If it does then speak aloud and say that you know that someone is there and you have been asked to tell them that it is time to move onto a better life. Tell them to look up and see the lights and to move towards these lights. No harm will come to them. Motion sensors Placing motion sensors which can be bought relatively cheap around the house may be triggered if there is a ghost roaming around. Be sure that they are not triggered by wind or pets. Research the history of the house In some cases especially when a house has just been moved into the ghost may be the person who died there. If you find anything that links the house to the events such as a person who passed away in one way or another in the property then you can try reasoning with them. Photographic evidence Take some pictures all around the house. Best during the night and with a full spectrum camera. Orbs appearing in video or normal cameras. Night vision cameras These can be used as static recorders then fast forward through the footage or as dynamic recording devices to film any suspicious areas of the house. It has been known for cameras and audio recorders to stop working when close to spirits. You may capture orbs or even shadows. Audio recorder There are many free audio programs such as audacity which will enable you to filter sounds and check all the frequencies. It is best either to leave a recording on during the day and night or to ask questions around the house whilst recording any possible responses. Dowsing Either using a pendulum or dowsing rods you can always try to see if anything happens when moving around the house. You may be surprised at the results. Help from a medium You can always ask your local spiritualist group to help. Don't tell them much at all. They may be able to figure it out themselves. If you have done some research do not let them know.

Yes, not only can a house be haunted, but a person, object, and land can be haunted as well. More or less a spirit has an attachment to something when a live and in death does not let go of this attachement or just refuses or understand the fact that they are no longer alive. No one really knows thought it's just theory.

if long time ago the land is a graveyard or it is a battle field, then there is probably the house built on there being haunt.
i heard from my mom, that in my home town, if there is a place/land being haunt, people will built a school on there.because they say the"thing" is hate noisy place.
the school is always full of children's voice when they play, so the "thing" will not comfort in that place and will go away from the land.
but that's why we always heard ghost at school's folklore.

There were other things at the location before the house was built, so there could be some lingering entity. Or maybe it's just "the house settling" which was how my family explained every mysterious noise.

Maybe you have a spirit guide following you or maybe the land you built on has past history, go to your local library and look up your areas history, i.e What was there before your house, maybe another house or someones land.

Yes,, I would look into any furniture that possibly you store in the basement. Possibly bought from a antique store or garage sale.. they tend to move with objects.

yes. some ghosts attach themselves to objects. if that object moves, so does the ghost.
there's also residual hauntings, which are similar. that's when a person touches something and leaves a psychic imprint behind that's so strong anyone can see it. unlike a real ghost, however, residuals don't interact with the living.

It depends on the actual land that your house sits on. Another thing is if you have a spirit following you.
