The Irish name Eva - there is a 'fother' (like a little diagonal line going from left up to the right) over the 'E' and is therefore pronounced 'A-vah'.
My friend, who is Irish, has a daughter called this. It's wonderful when pronounced with that beautiful Irish lilt but sometimes it's confusing when people read the name because they automatically prounounce it 'EEEE-vah'. . . .
If the name you are looking for (making up?!) looks like ev-ah then I would think it is said "Ev-er" - especially if it doesn't have the h on the end . . . .

The ev-ah sound is the name of the current Canadian Idol and it is so pretty.
People would likely always pronounce it ee-vah though. If you go Ava, then you get ah-vah. I don't see any way around it, unfortunately, except to go Evah, but then it looks like the slang of "ever" and that's no good either.
The only other thing I can think of is to call her Evangeline(a) or Evalynn and then everyone will know to say E-vah as a nickname.
I can't think of anything else, sorry. :)

okay so it's NOT eva, right? okay so spell it like this:
Evva. I suggest that even though u dont want the H on the end, i think you still should. Evva looks weird lol. Even though u dont want it I'd recommend spelling it Evvah
