I am not sure how or when the tradition started...... but when I was little, my mom used to always let my sister and I open an early Christmas present on Christmas eve. Every year it was a stuffed animal. This tradition continued in varied forms throughout high school..... college and into my first years as an adult. I still have the very last stuffed bear my mother bought me back in 1987. He had a blue bow around his neck..... so I named him Bo. Bo Bear was the last stuffed animal I ever got. My mom then got alzheimers and a few years later she passed away. So Bo means a great deal to me. My first child was born in 1993 and I put Bo in her crib. The funny thing was..... even as she got old enough to play with things...... she would always toddle over with Bo and hand him to me. There have even been times in recent years when I've been sick in bed and one or the other of my girls will come into my bed room and take Bo from the shelf and tuck him into bed with me. It's almost as though they know the times I so need my own mom. I guess I've had Bo for 20 years now. His blue bow has long disappeared, his nose has been chewed off by my dog and his fur is a tad bit dirty and matted down. But he has more special meaning than anything I can think of in the house. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. :)

While there are still a few mementos from childhood (including Teddy, my very first sleep companion), I consider my grandmother's photo most special. I believe it was taken in 1903 (1 year before Einstein's 'miracle year'). My grandmother, wearing pigtails, is flanked on each side by her parents. In those days, having a picture taken was an "event" to dress for. Yet even though it's quite formal, I see the shy smile I most remember of my grandmother. I smile back at her every day.

LOL yes I do! ... Okay, so being a manly man I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, but it's my old buddy, Rubber Ducky. :-) ... And the things you don't force me to confess to; guess must be that hypnotic-looking regression-inducing purple wing. ... Anyway, some years back Rubber Ducky even survived through an apartment fire with me - Ardee (that's his name) was the only thing I didn't have the heart to leave behind. He was a little shaken in that incident, but no worse for the ware. Ardee's by far one of the most sentimental objects I own. Well, there you have it Prncss - my deepest darkest secret. :-)

Yes- I have my teddy bear named Radar in a box downstairs. I will give it to one of my children when I decide to finally have them. I saved Radar from drowning. He fell in the water and I saved him. His fur is knotted up and matted since then, but it gave him more character- kind of like the Velveteen Rabit!:)
