because the odds makers don't listen to yahoo sports casters. Also, if number 5 gets hurt, they have 0 chance.

arkansas does not have to be in the top three going into the season.

unless you mean the top three in the SEC, and the SEC championship. And even then, it's arguable.

USC is nearly the consensus #1 going into the season. The next tier has two SEC teams, but neither of them is Arkansas - namely LSU and Florida. (there are a few other teams in that tier as well, such as Michigan, Wisconsin, Texas, and Oklahoma) Arkansas is at best third tier. I'd be expecting them around 15-20 in the preseason polls at best, potentially lower.

Arkansas ended last season in lot of turmoil and that continued into the offseason. Nutt basically lost control of the team after the loss to Wisconsin in their bowl. They lost two of their best offensive players transferring to USC in Mustain and Williams, and there's probably not a lot of chemistry carrying over from their great start last year.

They have probably the best player in the game this year in Darren McFadden (i'd be THRILLED if i saw 30 to 1 odds on McFadden winning the heisman, and i'd jump on that bet in a heartbeat), but there are a LOT of questions that need to be answered before we start considering Arkansas a serious contender for the National Championship.

Just in the SEC, you have Florida and LSU definitely better than Arkansas, and Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn and perhaps even Alabama with good arguments to be better than the Razorbacks this year

And if you disagree - make the bet. There's nothing wrong with having faith in a team's chances. You could end up making a lot of money on the deal

I wouldn't necessarily put them in the top 3, but playing in the SEC gives you much less chance of being able to run the table Their non-conference schedule, as is usual for an SEC team, is a joke (Troy, North Texas, Chattanooga, and Florida International, which makes you wonder if they secretly joined the Sun Belt Conference) but their conference schedule is murder. They miss Florida, Georgia, and Vanderbilt, but have to go to LSU, Alabama, and Tennessee, with no bye week after their second game.

The Pot-Bellied Pigs have a great running back - that's it. The coach is good at best. They lost the quarterback of the future, the brain-trust of their offense, the heart of their defense. If they win 9 games it will be a miracle.
