So, what's your question?? Or are you just taking an opportunity to complain about having to pay someone to be a Doctor? I'd be happy to see your animal for free if you would like to pay for my 8 years of college student loans, rent, bills, car, gas, malpractice insurance, employee salaries, annual license fees, medications for your animal to set on the shelf, the building to practice in, continuing education every year to keep up with all the things that can go wrong with your pet...etc. Oh, and while your at it, could you take all those calls for me at 3 am because someones' dog has been vomiting for 6 days, and now, at 3am, it's vomiting blood, so it's an emergency? Would you like to get called away from your family during all those "kodak moments" to drive 40 miles to nowhere and go cram your arm up a cows' **** to pull a calf in a snow covered, muddy field while she kicks you multiple times...for a couple hundred bucks, only to have a cranky old farmer complain about how much you charged?

What do you do? Are you worth what you get paid? I know I am!

I love my job, and would do it for free...but I, like everyone else, have to make a living. Your hamster, like every other pet, also depends on you to do the right thing for it...so, if you want to let it suffer...it's your karma.

If you can't afford a vet, you can't afford the pet. The fact that they are "free" doesn't mean a thing; many "free" pets end up being expensive.

Denying an animal of veterinary treatment is animal cruelty; watch any episode of Animal Precinct or Animal Cops and people have been arrested for it, rightfully so. Some vets charge more than others and many work on a payment plan. Animals cannot go out to the doctors like you can; they depend on you for their care.

If you don't want to take him to the vet, here is what you can try.Clean the infected area with peroxide, then dry it and apply Neosporin or Betadine ointment, a few times a day. Then go to the pet store and get some Tetracycline capsules;the kind used for fish tanks (ask someone who works there) Dissolve a 250 mg.capsule in a cup of water and give him a few teaspoonsful everyday ,for a week or so,in his water.Throw out the unused solution, and make new everyday.Give him about a 1/4 of a teaspoon of yogurt twice a day while he is on the antibiotics.Be sure not to use diet yogurt,as the artificial sweeteners can kill hamsters.Use only plain or fruit -flavored.Keep his bedding clean, and don't use wood shavings while he's sick;use paper towels instead. I hope he recovers.

You could also Google "treating wounds in hamsters."

What are his symptoms.. i grew up with hamsters and even raised them for a few years, perhaps I could help you figure out what is wrong with them...

In addition, please give teh guy a break.... hamsters are rodents, most likely in teh pet store it would have died or caught an ugly disease anyways. I got a set of guinea pigs from the pet store, the one was pregnant and I didn't know until the mom started beating up on teh boy and the boy started mounting the babies. SO give me a flippin break. To spend more than $100 in a rodents life time is too much, Just think, in some countries they are paying to have them killed at any expense, so lighten up a bit and help the guy figure out whats wrong with his poor hammy.

There is no such thing as a free pet. Caring for animals takes money. If you can't afford a vet (or won't) you can't afford the pet. You took on a responsibility when you got the hamster. If you didn't want that like of responsibility, you don't want the pet.

It does not matter if a pet is free or costs a lot of money. When you bring any pet into your household, you are saying that you are taking on the responcibility of that pets health and well-being.

I can only hope that you don't ever need medical attention and people tell you that they are just going to wait it out and see what happens. Karma will be waiting for you.

I hope your poor little hamster passes away peacefully, he deserved to be loved and taken care of.

I hope that you seriously consider not having other pets in the future.

Good luck.

So if you had a sick child would you just "wait it out" because doctors are expensive?

Those hamsters depend on you for EVERYthing. Why take on the responsibility of an animal if you don't even want to take care of it? Give them to someone who will take care of them, or at least CALL a vet--they won't charge you for a phone call.

I think that you really shouldn't habe accepted thsoe hammies if youwer enot planning on caring for them properly. In the future please think about that before you accept a pet for free or even spend money to buy one. Also try Neosporin.
