Because you are afraid of failure. You feel that if you dont stay on top of everything then you will be out on the street some day. This is a much needed defense mechanism or survival mechanism, whatever you want to call it. But, just as important for our survival is the ability to set back and relax once in a while. Personally, I go sort of in spurts. I will be extremely lazy for days on end and then I will get a burst of physical and mental energy and I will get a lot of stuff done. I really have learned to enjoy both extremes.

It's really hard sometimes to even take a minute to yourself when you can list 1000 things in your head that need to be done. I find that if I need to relax but I know there's a lot to do, start with little things like just taking a longer shower than usual and relax a bit. Or rather than just going straight to bed take a half hour or so and read a book or watch some TV or just lay down and try to clear your mind.

It's sad when you are always running around life passes by so quickly and it's important to stop and smell the roses! =)

I broke my foot and you'd think since I have the summer off, I'd take it easy and just ride the restful wave, but I can't. I don't know how. I never learned. So, I am constantly figuring out how to get back up and learn to overcome this stupid break. Today has marked week 5 and as I slept my cast bothered me so much that in my sleep I grabbed my cast with my other foot and pushed it right off. I awoke sitting up in bed with a naked foot and it felt good. I haven't put the cast back on yet. It feels so good to be without it and I have been walking around all over the place. I don't want to overdue it,but I think there are just some of us out there that weren't meant to sit back. We were meant to feel the passions of what life is.

Maybe you have ADD, or anxiety...do you really need to do the stuff you're doing, or is it more like busy work? Do you feel like you have to take care of everything because others won't do a good job? How long has all of this been going on?

I had a similar thing were I would worry that I left a tool at a job or left the door unlocked until I just started saying to myself "to hell with it" if I left the tool so what,if I left the door unlocked and they steal everything so what let it happen.I am at least not going to worry about it right now that i can't do anything about it.Maybe you should do something similar.

You sound like a mother. Welcome to my world!!! If you are not a mother, are you a father? Either way, try to remember to do something for yourself and tell yourself that you are NOT being selfish, but are actually doing those around you a lot of good because you are making sure that the one who does it all is getting a chance to be rejuvenated so that you can go on doing it all again!!

You might be a bit of a control freak. You just have to slowly allow yourself to trust others with some responsibility. It probably won't be easy, but try it for a while.

Because you don't know how to relax. It's a skill you have to learn. Not as easy as it seems.
