The modem went out in my laptop and I know I can get an external modem, but I'd rather have the original one replaced. Is it possible? How? Price?

With notebooks, it's dicey. In some cases the modems are modules/cards which can be pulled & replaced (but often only by a technican since other components may need to be removed first) while in other cases they are just a chipset permanently attached to the motherboard.

You can certainly disable the bad modem in the BIOS and/or windows and install either a PCMCIA or USB modem, which would involve less expense and hassle.

HP's support site might yield some information, but an authorized HP repair center is the best way to get a definitive answer.

get the HP maintenance manual (it's buried somewhere in the web site) find the part number and look on Ebay for one that's been parted out of a broken computer.

you can buy a moderm for your laptop and replace it by yourself. Go to ebay.com and search..hardware for your laptop..exactly..?
There are so many of them and conditions. If you cannot change it...so take to the Computer store as you choose.
