As animals probably don't form rigid concrete ideas regarding themselves they're probably able to experience things such as group dynamic, harmony/unity at a more accessible rate than humans are once they've developed concrete ideas of self.

If you mean spiritual in the religious sense, no. I'm sure they don't have the propensity to imagine, or become fixed on concepts like that. But, do they have spirit? That's quite different. Non-human animals have the most pure spirit; they are totally honest, without negative emotions that plague humans. Their love is boundless. I had a cat who almost died for grieving over the death of his companion, & another who has saved my life twice. Somehow, I don't think this is what you mean.

I can only speculate that prothenb has never had an "experience," or bonded with an "animal." They have far more than "situational awareness." We presume so much about what we do not know!

Awareness certainly, and more than we do, in particular ways - such as sight for an eagle, smell for a dog, microscopic awareness for very small creatures. But spiritual? That depends on how one defines it. I can't imagine any animal having a concept of supernatural gods, life after death etc. I reckon they're simply human fantasies, born of our intellectual sense of personal identity and isolating sense of "other", and our need for explanations and complex world view to give our selves context. Beyond that, I define spirituality as a sense of connection with what we define as "other". Animals are obviously capable of that sense of connection in relationships with others of their kind, and humans (onto whom they often project their natural pack or herd allegiances). That may entail affection, though I think it doesn't necessarily go beyond the affinities one sees in the pack. So "spirituality" may entail a kind of scale. We can know and recognise our connection with even such disparate "other" as plants, fish, beetles, worms, and even experience it beyond mere intellectualisation. But I think that is largely a learned response, from knowledge and the capacity for empathy (which involves imagination). So it is different from any connection an animal would experience with "other", both in extent and quality, I think. Perhaps it is the fragility of our own relationships that makes the apparent relationship with animal pets seem so rewarding - we can perceive it as direct, unqualified, and thus more genuine, reliable, and uncomplicated than human relationships. But it seems to me to be largely anthropomorphic projection - similar to our concepts of gods and custodial angels. Personally I like animals for their own unique qualities - and preferably wild.

What is spiritual awareness? Belief in something after life?
If that is the case, I believe not.

a million. there's no such element as an evolutionist, we don't desire a be conscious to show people who have self belief issues that are genuine. 2. Evolution is a scientific assertion describing how uncomplicated existence can become greater complicated without requiring any sort of planned layout or intervention of any sort of smart organization. it is not a ethical code, asserting that it encourages people to act like animals is like asserting the belief of nicely-known gravitation encourages people to bounce off homes.

Not in the human sense.

However,
do they have intense love for one another? yes

(this is displayed in many ways, the licking of ears, 'toothbrush' licking, and in more intimate licking, playing with other group members)

do they miss a dead group member? a little -- but they are made to not dwell on that too much.

do they have intense love for their human 'parents'? most certainly, nearly excessively so.

they are very sensitive to the mental state (happy / sad) of their 'parents.'

they seem to always be very happy, unless near death - even then they strive to give little trouble.

I don't think they have much more than situational awareness, much less spiritual awareness.
