Is there any software available which can alert me as soon as any of my Contacts becomes online in Google Mail while me being off-line. I have seen some other mail service providers offering a system tray resident software which starts flashing when some new mail arrives.

Sorry this is not possible on Gmail. But if you download Google talk which is the messenger on google, you will be able to get the alert when anybody will be online but only when you will be online and not when you will be offline as it is not possible to switch ti invisible mode on gmail or google talk.

u being offline means? is ur system connected to net and u are logged out in gmail?
u can try for google pc software package or google desktop toolbar that may help u.
