are there any studies out there about this? my pregnancy was going great and i was well into my 2nd month and i went in for my first ob visit for the pregnancy, and that same right after the exam i started spotting and cramping and jsut didnt feel right, and it continued for 2 days and i finally miscarried at the hospital. im still heart broken , we already have a 2 year but i think everyday what i would of had with this baby and what he or she would have been. i dont know if its just my broken heart thats making my think that the doctor screwed up or not, but i just really feel that he did any comment would be great

I'm sorry about your baby. Honestly, the same thing happened to me and yes i do think it had to do with the exam, well not the exam itself but i think the nurse did something to cause it. Are you fairly young? I was 17 at the time and like yours my pregnancy was going very well until my first exam, I think that she ruptured my membranes to cause my miscarriage. My husband and I were devastated.

I'm almost positive that a vaginal exam had nothing to do with the miscarriage. Vaginal exams are normal during pregancy and so are minor spotting and cramping after them. Always always tell a doctor about them after the exam though. If in doubt, get a second opinion. Keep this in mind for next time. I have never seen any study about vaginal exams causing a miscarriage. They will probably put you in a high risk category for your next pregnancy though, so you can be watched better or something. I'm so sorry, and good luck in the future. God bless. Also, I wouldn't blame your doctor, I don't think they did anything wrong.

i actually had almost the exact same thing happen. i had a miscarriage 3 days after my first visit. the baby had passed a couple days b4 the miscarriage. i had horrible dreams the night after my Dr's visit so i think that is when it happened. i got an infection and had to have a d&c the morning after i found out. i am still heart broken also the weird thing is i have a 2 year old also. i dont know any information about his but that does seem to be an odd coincidence. i though of that but i didnt put much into it bc i had never heard of it b4.

You'd think the doctors would of explained everything to you, and told you if there were any risks involved, thats shocking, I am very sorry for your loss.
Perhaps calling the doctor and asking about wether the exam could of had a contributig factor in the miscarriage, just to find out for your own sake.

slim to none. I misscarried 2 years agoe and did a lot of research on why it happened. I was almost to my 3rd month when it happened. Most miscarriages happen when there is a defect within the embryo itself, growing just essentially stops, or the cells did not part and multiply properly and when this happens your bidy releases it. Its not your fault or vaginal exam its just forces of nature

a vaginal exam will not cause a miscarrage. I am sorry that the timing was like that, and I'm sory for your loss, but most miscarages happen for a reason, and its no ones fault.

well i know that if you have a shortend cervex that they will not preform a vaginal exam, cause it can put you into early labor, of course your doc wouldnt know this is this was your first check-up, you should have an ultrasound or another vaginal exam to see if that was the cause, sorry to hear!
