I never really understood that saying.... I mean, I eat my own cake on my Birthday and such.
I know, I probably sound real stupid by asking... but I just don't get that saying.

finding out about something you don't know shows wisdom,,,,,,which increases when you've learned the answer having your cake and eating it too means a position of advantage,,,,,,,,you and a friend go to the show, she pays both tickets, buys popcorn,,,,,,cokes,,,,if you talk & talk & forget that she's paying everything,,,,,she suddenly says,'mouse, you can;t have your cake and eat it too'.she's a little peed off cuz you didn't notice she was paying,,,,if you get back to the house & moms been doing all the wash, cleaned the dishes,,,& she's eating your 2 favorite pudding snacks,,,you object,,,,,,'mom whatsup those were mine.....mom says,' i did all your work while you were at the mall shopping,i can have my cake and eat it too',,,,,,,in this case the act under examination is a deserved advantage/reward

That's because you said it wrong. The actual quote is: I want to have my cake and eat it, too. That is impossible. You can have it (keep it) or you can eat it (lose it). You can't do both. So the quote means you are being unreasonable.
