REPORT: The Right Wing Domination Of Talk Radio And How To End It
The Center for American Progress and Free Press today released the first-of-its-kind statistical analysis of the political make-up of talk radio in the United States. It confirms that talk radio, one of the most widely used media formats in America, is dominated almost exclusively by conservatives.

The new report — entitled “The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio” — raises serious questions about whether the companies licensed to broadcast over the public radio airwaves are serving the listening needs of all Americans.

While progressive talk is making inroads on commercial stations, right-wing talk reigns supreme on America’s airwaves. Some key findings:

– In the spring of 2007, of the 257 news/talk stations owned by the top five commercial station owners, 91 percent of the total weekday talk radio programming was conservative, and only 9 percent was progressive.

– Each weekday, 2,570 hours and 15 minutes of conservative talk are broadcast on these stations compared to 254 hours of progressive talk — 10 times as much conservative talk as progressive talk.

– 76 percent of the news/talk programming in the top 10 radio markets is conservative, while 24 percent is progressive.

BUT BUT BUT BUT - where is the outrage over this?

MSNBC.com identified 144 journalists who made political contributions from 2004 through the start of the 2008 campaign, according to the public records of the Federal Election Commission. Most of the newsroom checkbooks leaned to the left: 125 journalists gave to Democrats and liberal causes. Only 17 gave to Republicans. Two gave to both parties.

Chavez just did the same thing by shutting down a TV station a few weeks ago that didn't agree with his politics.
Looks like if Hillary gets elected, we're headed down the same socialist path.
Her motto? Kill all that does not work for or with her. Just like hubby Bill used to do. He learned from the best. His so called wife.

I don't see any evidence of anyone wanting to silence talk radio in what you cited. I see evidence that people did an analysis of what appears on the air. It's nice to see actual evidence instead of people just yelling at each other about liberal media, corporate media control and assorted things based on their perceptions.

Political reporters probably shouldn't give to campaigns. However, newspapers have a long tradition of being associated with political parties or leaning a certain way so its not shocking. Everyone knows that the Washington Post leans a little to the left and the Washington Times leans fairly heavily to the right editorially.

I like Glen Beck and Fox News , and the Conserative Report we are the ones whom really care about America. All these others with their free give away programs Welfare for people with 5 or more Children they need to keep the gap close after two. Only the Liberals are for the terroist to afraid to stand up to them. If Al Gore would have been President on 9/ 11/2001 He would have just apolygized to them the same way this thing we have in Office now has done. Bowing down and kissing the enemies feet and spiting in the face of our Alies those whome are our freinds like Israel.

I wonder if the Liberals would get mad if we applied the fairness doctrine to their favorite radio station. I think we should make NPR do 12 hours of Conservative talk radio. If you force a radio station - like the one I listen to - which is all "live" conservative talk radio, it will ruin the station. Liberals are boring. No one wants to listen to a bunch of Leftists trash their country. (When I was in Virginia we had a station that put on a show to balance Rush, all it did was bash Rush. It was terrible. They canceled it because no one was listening.) Radio stations learned quickly that Conservative Talk sells. By forcing them to put on a bunch of Liberals is like forcing Walmart to sell products they know won't sell. It's just stupid. It's a flat out attempt by Congress to shut up Conservatives.

reporters aren't breaking the law by contributing to political campaigns.

there is no outrage of cons controlling the airwaves. those shows get the ratings so they should continue to operate.

The Left has enjoyed total control of the media for years and developments like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh scare the hell out of them. They will stop at nothing to silence them. What I cannot understand is, if the country loves conservative viewpoints so much, why is our government so liberal? Todays Republicans would have been called Democrats in the seventies and todays Democrats would have been called Communists in the seventies.

It would be like turning our airwaves into public schools where everything would have to be politically correct. Then, the government could run unchecked by its own citizens, giving politicians more power.

This socialistic goal is the liberals true intent. Freedom of speech gives the liberals a voice over the airwaves as well, but like airwaves, liberal commentary is as transparent as the waves themselves.

Well definitely most tv and probably most printed news media is dominated by libs. Polls by the Pew Research Center confirm that most media people in those venues , like 60% say they are liberal , ( and only 7% say they are conservative ).
And try as they might they keep failing in the venue of radio.

I know I dont watch tv , my news is radio and internet.
Of course you have FOX who has as many watchers as ABC, CBS and MSNBC combined, which also i think makes them mad, but as I said I dont watch TV.

So when you fail you have to try and make it so someone else cant succeed. Is that the liberal way?

that some 87% of a substantial sample of reporters are liberal is not suprising to me, but to say that it doesnt indicate the liberal bias of print and newsmedia is either arrogant or just totally naive.

to say that that's not enough of a sample is like feinstein saying that 8000 californians calling her office outraged over amnesty is not enough for her to consider their outrage.

to say that liberals are not "dominating" these other forms of media is like the fish who doesnt know he's wet. "what? bias? what bias? keith olberman? oh, well, he's just your average stand-up, unbiased jounalist.

but we'd better stop that limbaugh; i hear he's corrupting the youth."
