So my question is if i bought a pearl gourami. Should i keep them in groups, or can i buy like one pearl, one dwarf, one something, and so on. Or should i just pick a kind and stick with it. Tank is 29 gallon and it will have two bristle nose plecs and 4 corys

Yes you can keep them as singles. I've had both of the two you've mentioned and I saw no ill effects over the six months I kept them by having just one. The one I liked the most was the blue Gourami, sometimes known as the three spot and sometimes here called as a Lavendar, though I think they are wrong on that name. They are great fish I think. Pearls are pretty small overall, have a nice look to them, and are pretty peaceful. With a dwarf there though, that one MIGHT get a little aggressive if it's a male, so I'd watch that one. If he gets out of line, send him back and try out a three spot. I really like those personally.

Only some of those get aggressive, but not all for the poster above. And NO they do not have to be schooled

i like my gourami tank -- i have two pearls -- both male. my whole tank is male -- i think that helps things. if you get blue/three-spot/lavendar/gold/platinum/opaline they are all the same gourami -- just different color variations.

trichogasters are honeys, pearls, and the ever color morphing gourami mentioned above.

colisa is the dwarf gourami -- i have dwarfs and they are kind of skiddish with the trichogasters -- no fights or anything -- just kind of the odd guys out.

i can't say enough good about sparkling gouramis -- if you can find some get a shoal of them. they sing, they sparkle , they can even steal the show from the pearls.

kissing gouramis are violent and way too big for a community tank. please avoid those --

my tank -- 1 betta, 2 pearl, 3 dwarf, 4 honey, 2 guppies, 2 bamboo shrimp lots of plants.

i forgot -- float some water sprite if you can find some -- everyone loves it but the pearls -- they are too busy trying to look good.

Pearl Gouramis like to live in groups. With a 29 gal tank you would be best to get 1 male and 2 or 3 females. Pearl Gouramis get to be about 4" in length. If you get Dwarf Gouramis you could get 6 or 8 of them. There are different color morphs of them so you could get a male Powder Blue, male Neon Blue, male Neon Red and a regular male Dwarf Gourami. Then get 4 females to go with them. Dwarf Gouramis will grow to be about 2" in size. I wouldn't suggest getting both Pearl and Dwarf Gouramis.

I also suggest you only get one Bristlenose Pleco. They are territorial and 2 of them might not get along very well.

You can keep them singularly or as many as the capacity will allow, the only time they're really aggressive is when they're breeding and if you have a pair that's more likely than not.
There's several types, my favorites being the chocolate and honey gourami's
Oh and bristle-nose are territorial and the males will squabble but really only over a hiding place and not to the detriment of there health. I've no idea how many I've got they're another fish that breed very easily, so look for a pair if you can.

They need to be in groups of their own kind. Like 3-4 pearls and 3-4 dwarfs, etc. You can mingle kinds though.

They're aggressive. Keep that in mind.

good choice of fish, but when you do get your gouramis keep an eye on them when you add them to the tank and see if they bother with the plecos by fin-nipping then.

unless if you get the kissing gouramis since they are veary peaceful with plecos like mine, but still in caution get around 2 to 5.
