Because it has gotten out of hand, like Quinceañera in Hispanic communities and American weddings and graduation proms in some communities..

How much does it cost there? I got my wife for three hogs and a milking goat.It turned out to be the best deal I ever made. That was 21 years ago though, so maybe there's been a lot of inflation since then?

dont they have to pay a dowry for their brides? i believe it is custom to pay the family (not sure if this is still in practice)
