I want to melt the cans to make some other things, but first, I need to know how hot the can has to be to melt. Also, what methods can I use to reach that tempature?

Go to the hardware store and get a small plumber's torch with a bottle of Mapp gas. Total cost will be about $25 - $30

Depending on it's composition, it can have a melting point of about 1400-1600 °C.

Aluminum melts at 660.32°C (1221°F). Some kilns can attain this temperature. Acetylene or propane torches can be used also. Needles to say safety and fire protection are concerns. Also, aluminum oxidizes very easily, so you can expect a lot of slag.
