i'd wait till i got a new guitar. with a whammy bar it is very common that most guitars will drop out of tune. I would save my money and get a floyd rose trem lock before i got a whammy bar. i learned pretty much from books and tab online and playing with others. i didnt have any formal lessons at all really i just hear a song on the radio and learn how to play it. check out guitar method 1-3 from mel bay

You should do whatever would be cheaper, but then again, you can do whatever you want to do. After all, it's your money and your guitar.
