It's not just about going to SAT Prep School and camp. You need to really want it. You have to put the extra effort. Do your prep school homework, and on aside memorize 100 more words. Do more problems, do more math, write more essays. Do one practice test each weekend for 10 weeks. Grade them and re-do it. Memorize all the words you do not know. SAT is pain in the *** because your score will not improve dramatically, but with hard work, you will see results. Don't give up on yourself. Keep studying those damn vocabs. Buy McGraw Hill SAT book and follow their schedule as well as doing other supplementary work. Merely going to camps will not help you. DO EXTRA WORK!

I tutor a lot of gifted kids and they all get amazing high scores on the SATs. I wish I could take credit for that, but it really has almost nothing to do with the tutoring. Basically, these kids do well because they have amazing curiosity about the world. They spend a LOT of time reading.., many of them read a book a day, and have been doing that since they were little kids. They love school and study a lot. They are constantly discussing the world, current events, history, everything!
They don't need to study vocabulary and try to memorize long lists of words they never saw before, because they have seen those words hundreds of times in books they read. They dont need to study English grammar because they have read so much that they have developed a great feel for language.
Getting amazingly high scores is not about studying in a prep course. It is about being a person who loves learning and especially, loves reading. Although it is kind of late, if you can get into those habits of mind, you will do a lot better in all your schoolwork.
By the way, this should also remind you that SATs are not a measure of whether you are a good person or not. They are only a measure of whether you have been academically dedicated over the course of your 12 years in school.

Tip number one: Do some research and try the ACT. People who feel they don't to well on the SAT often rock the ACT and vice versa.
Number two: A week is really not much time. I'd say relax, spend the summer doing some UNstressful NONintensive studying/tutoring with it, and re-take it ASAP in the fall.
Nuber three: Find out what the schools you want to apply to are looking for in an application. You may have scores that are just fine and don't even know it.
Most importantly NEVER COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS! Focus on what is doing well for YOU, not other people.

i've heard that SAT camps r useless and u could do better by studying it by yourself from a prep book. 1700 is better than what i got tho. study your mistakes and fix them if you're going to re-take it, u still have the whole summer to work on it.
