Do you ever just want to hide from, or disappear so that you don't have to deal with you dysfunctional family?
I mean I love them, but really, I could like leave the country and just write supportive letters........and maybe no phone; just tell them I'm writing a book and I need my creative space. They drain me sometimes.

I can relate to you wholeheartedly. I'm about to leave for a family reunion (yes, some weirdos still do those!) and while I'm looking forward to it I know I will quickly become annoyed by it. Actually, sometimes my immediate family drives me nuts. Like tonight, my sister kept badgering me about my travel plans. I kept saying "why are you worried about MY plans?! They're not YOUR problem; they're MY problem! Leave me the hell alone!!!" Know what I mean?

I think we all want to but I don't talk to 2 of my sister anymore the last time I spoke to one of them was in 1986 and the other one in 1993, and I have never been happier since I stopped talking to them. I still talk to my other sister and my mom and dad. Those 2 sisters were root of most of the problems in our family and one day I just chose not to talk to one of them and then later the other one, no calls, no cards, nothing - I got married and didnt even invite them to the ceremony or the reception i knew if I did it would cause drama and i didn't want it and my wife and her family didnt deserve it and neither did the rest of my family. I don't hate them I just choose not to associate with them.

I moved 3000 miles away from them. I can't live with dysfunction in my adult life.

My brother drained me and now, I don't talk to him or have anything to do with him. It is most liberating.
