how much is "a thin layer" of thermal paste on a cpu/hsf?

Just blob it onto the center of the processor, as it will spread out when you put the heat sync on.

It is probably around 1/2 teaspoon... usually the entire syringe or packet that it comes in.

Enough to see it well, but not so much it squishes out and gets all over everything else on the mobo.

i put the whole little tube on my cpu when i install my heat sinks... it doesnt matter how thick it is.
