The law clearly states that you may indeed use the car pool lane, if, the deceased is sitting upright in the front seat.

The carpool lane is for cars with a certain number of "passengers". Corpses are not passengers, they are classified under law as "cargo".

Think about it. The carpool lane assumes several people that are in somewhat of a hurry to get somewhere. Is your so-called passenger in a hurry to get someplace?
