Depending on the species, pines can grow very tall - 30 feet or more. Make sure it gets enough water when you first plant it, but after a few years, it will be okay without further watering. Most pines require no fertilizer. If you want it to be bushy, cut off the very top, the apical bud.

Most other plants will not grow under pines, as the fallen needles make the soil acidic. Long-leaf pines are especially graceful, but white pines and other species may do better in your climate. Don't worry -- pines generally grow very well without having to do anything to encourage their growth. It will need adequate sunshine, so it shouldn't be planted too close to other trees.
