I like the luau and rock star -- they are "more mature" than Bratz (aka toys) and 10 year olds are starting to think they are maturing. You can always do a single color theme party (i.e. Purple passion party, Pink Puppy party, Gigling Green party) which gives you a theme and you can do some fun games that have the color in them.

The best party I've seen for a tween was a Backwards party. The invitations were thank you notes, and vice versa. We all wore our clothes turned around. The cake and presents were first, then snacks. Everything was backwards. You could incorporate your other ideas. My daughter just had a luau birthday. We had a hula contest and a hula hoop contest. And I gave special prizes for costumes. Showing up with no shoes, flowers behind the ear, that sort of thing. It was actually one of the cheapest parties, too. Luau is a big theme right now and the decorations are everywhere. Each girl got a flower lei and sunglasses in her loot bag, and the hula hoopers all kept the hoops. A big hit.

I like the rock star thing a lot. In the mall you can go to this place called Libby Lu and they can put together a dress up party for her. there are are many themes and they look really fun. They have activities and tones of dress up clothes. I wish i had a party there when I was little!

Along the same lines...you could have a fashion show party. Have a couple of volunteers to help do the girls hair and makeup. Make a runway and snap some pics. Let each girl have a Polaroid of themselves glammed up as a party favor. You could easily make a windowed card to insert them into.

Another idea is to take them all to a ceramics shop and let them each paint their own piece. The one in our area has party rates for birthdays.

I just looked in a catalog I have, and it has about 10 -12 ideas for girls parties. They offer everything you will need but the food. Check it out on line, or if you have enough time, order their Party Book.

does she like disney? don't do a disney princess theme but does maybe like Hannah Montana (she's a popstar who goes to school and wears a disguise to be the popstar) or the other tween shows they have. If you do the Hannah you could get them to dress up and sing karaoke. buy cheap wigs and makeup and if you dont have a karaoke machine u can rent one or just get those play microphones and a cd player.

Lua Aus are great for summer outdoor parties. The Rocker one is cute too. What tv shows is she into? What characters? Movies? My daughter loves Tinkerbell so we did a party based on her.
