I am asking this question due to the fact over the past few days attacks against our military forces have stepped up. I do not want finger pointing across political party and philosophical lines - I want tangible suggestions for better safeguarding our troops in Iraq for the duration of their stay. It would seem to me that the Iraq govementt and its own trained military forces could begin to bear the weight of the security detail. Maybe I am off base. Look forward to your answers.

That depends on WHOSE benefit we sent our troops to Iraq- FOR. If we sent them out to help the Iraqi people- then no, there is NO viable solution for protecting our guys, because they're GOING to be shot at- or blown up, at every turn. That's part of the job. If we sent them there for "show" -as a military pressence, then I suppose we could have them all "hole up" in a barracks in the Iraqi Desert somewhere -and PRAY some enterprising Iraqi terrorist doesn't fly a plane full of explosives into it- killing a couple thousand of our soldiers, in the process. Either way, as LONG as we have "boots on the ground" there in Iraq, our guys will continue to die. It's that simple.

,There is no easy solution to protect our troops, They are in harms way. The Iraqi Army has had many years to become a force to protect their country. It is their war ,NOW, We need to take our troops out of harms way, That is the only way ,I see of protecting our troops. If Iraq falls after our troops leave, like Vietnam did ,Then so be it, but we will not have lost 58,000 soldiers

Bringing them home would probably do the trick. If the Esteemed Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney think this is such a good idea, perhaps they could go in place of the troops, but wait one was AWOL and the other had other priorities in a past conflict.

There is great mess in Iraq. Intelligence appears to be failure. No publicity should be given to terrorist. Army administration should be given free hand to negotiate peace with opposing forces to safeguard the lives of Americans. I agree with your last para.

I think once we get bush out of office and Congress gets there head outta there butthole we can safely return all service men and woman, but for right now... there should be a limit of troops going oversees. we should shield the troops in a safe zone so no other intelligence can intercept the mission of our troops. they defend OUR freedom we should try(government) to safeguard theres.

Longer training(because honestly we are sending children with guns to a war zone), shorter tours(because exhaustion and loss of drive makes them reckless),more troops(safety in numbers), better equipment, better support from home. And you are right , the Iraq Govt needs to start taking more control, our guys should simply be backup at this point.

Pulling out would be nice. But that would mean 'surrendering' to the war supporters.

I guess we can't do that.

As for the Iraqi puppet government and its own "monkey-trained" military forces stepping up to the plate to protect their country....?

That's a LAUGH and a HALF!

They are still ill-equipped and undertrained to take up such a venture. And the government's so weak, it doesn't even EXIST to serve the people.

Dear President Bush,

So it's come to this, asking people to help via Yahoo answers, sigh.

As our grandchildren pay off the interest for this mess, your legacy will certainly be assured.
