I do not own a car. I car share and wish I could rely on public transport but in this country that is very difficult outside major urban areas and not that easy within most of them.
We need a lot more Public transport from an energy efficiency and economic standpoint as much as from a safety standpoint

I own a car, but when it isn't too far or my knees don't hurt too much I like to hook up my little kiddie cart to my bike tel the kids to jump into the mini-van as I call my bike and cart and I'll take my 7 and 8 yr old down to the park or store. Gives me the excersise I need and saves on gas. The kids love it, although my oldest has requested I put a wooden bottem on the kiddie cart, or get him his own bike, now that he is bigger, older, and heavier. I decided to get him his own bike, and find a new route for the stores and park. Foot power rules, or so I think.

My favorite are streetcars. Cheap, efficient, and cost effective.
Subways, Els are too expensive to build. Buses are only as fast as the traffic they're stuck in. I have to use my car because in here in Atlanta, the public transportation system outside the city is poor at best.

I own a car. I wish there were more sidewalks in my town. I would walk to the store, the PO, etc. If there were a train that could take me to a variety of destinations (like shopping, the doctor, etc.) I would happily use it. I was in Europe a couple of years ago. Everyone was walking, taking the trains and riding bikes. They were thin, too. Interesting.

It depends on the area. It could be scary at times. I wish it were like Europe where everything is clean and modern.. That's why almost everyone there uses public transportation.

the heavier the bus is with people, the more fuel it uses and polutes, drive your own car, have a smoke while on way to work, plus busses never have a way to pull over for you to use a restroom without you having to wait for another bus, you rarely can eat while on a bus, and the driver never drives the way you like, and it takes forever to get where your going, drive your car, stop where you want, and get where your going in less time makes for a more beneficial and more accomplished in less time =)
