There is no difference, it is all the same animal.

Believe it or not that species goes by a million and one names... along with what you listed they also go by catamount, panther and in a few places the Mountain Screamer (odd one I know).

Anyway, it just depends on what part of the country you are in.

Those are all different terms for the SAME animal.

FROM WIKIPEDIA: The Cougar (Puma concolor), also known as the Panther, Puma or Mountain Lion, is a mammal of the Felidae family, native to the Americas. This large, solitary cat has the greatest range of any terrestrial mammal in the Western Hemisphere other than humans,[3] extending from Yukon in Canada to the southern Andes of South America. An adaptable, generalist species, the Cougar is found in every major New World habitat type. It is the second heaviest cat in the New World, after the Jaguar, and the fourth heaviest in the world, after the Tiger, Lion, and Jaguar, although it is most closely related to smaller felines.

These are all names for the same animal, felis concolor. The only member of these animals that may actually be different is the florida panther. There has been some debate as to whether this is genetically simply a mountain lion (and therefore not entitled to endangered status) or whether it has been isolated enough that the animal is now a new species (or subspecies) which would entitle it to protection.

The only difference is where they live, they are the same species.

This big cat ranges from the Yukon to South America and has many different regional names.

It's the same difference. Different names for one animal, I guess it's a regional thing.
