Do you think that couples should set aside time away from the kids? I think it's healthy, but I get a lot of resistance from my mate. It only infuriates me and I end up feeling like our relationship is not that important anymore. Sometimes I end up feeling some resentment because I am ridiculed for wanting it. I am going out of my mind... please help!

I think that it is a good thing for couples to set aside time for just them, without the kids. I had the same problem with my ex when we were together. I would want to do that you know just a break, time away and he would not want to do it either. I always got the line that it wasn't fair to "dump" the kids off on someone to go out when they could go with us. He never got the point of it and I did feel like I didn't matter anymore either. I am now remarried to a wonderful very understanding man and we DO make it a point to have "date night" at least a few times a month. It makes it better that the kids are older and when they go visit their dad, but we also have had someone else watch them or take them to my parents house so that we can have that adult alone time and reconnect. If he just doesn't get it maybe try to arrange something and suprise him with a night out or even dinner at home without the kids. If he will see how much it means to you and how nice it is then maybe he will be more agreeable in the future.
Good luck and keep trying!

yes couples need time away from the kids. Not a lot but they need a night every once in a while. Although, when two people agree to have children, they should know that it will change a relationship so, not a lot of away time but i would say one to two nights a month or every other month is plenty.
