I am planning on going to Greece for a while this fall and I practically live in flip flops, but I heard that they practically scream "American tourist" in most countries. Is this true? If so, what shoes are common?

I would be proud to wear flip flops if it screamed America, however I have been to Greece and many of the streets and sidewalks are cobblestone. Tennis shoes would be more comfortable and appropriate. Have fun and enjoy.

If in doubt wear flats. They are in and they are basically flip flops but closed.

if you dont want to wear flip flops beacuse they might yell at you..then wear tennis shoes....everyone wears tennis shoes...and its way more comfortable for your feet
