Canada cheated in Gold Cup?

Question

With the all conspiracies and all the questionable calls I had apprehensive with Canada playing the US in the semi-finals... Would we be ripped off like other teams? well guess what.. we were....

Canada was clearly onside on their last goal that would tie Canada and the USA semi-final game and send the teams into overtime but the goal was waved off....

I wish I could say I was surprised but I'm not....I am disgusted...

I saw the Argentina vs Germany game in the World Cup, what conspiracy? Germany won in the shoot-out. Its not Germany's fault the Argentina coach took off all his best goal scorers because he thought the game was in the bag. It was a bad coaching call. I personally thought that was one of the best if not the best game in the World Cup, Germany is amazing in penalty kicks 5 for 5.

yeah i know they got robbed and they probably would of won since USA got a red card.but USA host so they have to let them win.
BUT DONT WORRY CANADA
you guys are hosting the NEXT Gold Cup in 2009,so the refs will be on your side,and you'll get the easiest group.

My top two favorite teams are the U.S. and Canada, and I do feel that Canada got cheated on that last call. I do understand that a lot of people or upset about the call. However, all of those fans saying the U.S. should not be in the final need to realize that a goal by Canada would have taken Canada into extra time, not the championship game. Even if the ref had (correctly) allowed the goal, there would still be another 30 minutes to play and possibly PKs. Think about it, the last 15 minutes were back and forth...not completely controlled by Canada. It's not like the U.S. was out of the game. The game could have gone either way in extra time. No one will ever know how it would have ended if it had gone to extra time. So, let's stop the "U.S. shouldn't be in the finals" talk and instead let's just discuss what was obvious to both sides: the ref sucked. There should not have been a yellow against Donovan or Hedjuk. There were fouls in the box on both teams that could have been called for PKs. The ref was terrible, but he was equally terrible for both teams. Canada is paying for his mistakes immediately and the U.S. will pay for the mistakes in the final by losing one of their best players. With the obvious emergence of Canada, I eagerly look forward to the next match between these two teams.

It looked like a bad call to me too, but like I told my fellow americans who were whining about the calls in the match vs. italy last summer, the matches are 90 minutes for a reason. It's up to the teams to take matches out of the refs hands. Canada had plenty of time and other opportunities that they didn't capitalize on. As for conspiracies, there always seem to be conspiracies keeping losers from advancing last world cup was full of them (arg. vs. germany comes quickly to mind--the argentinians were whining about how the germans bribed the refs, guess they ran out of money for the germany-italy match...). Incompetence/mistakes don't = conspiracies.

That's my point. Try telling an argentinian there was no conspiracy and see what you get. It's obvious the Germans beat the argentinians, but since the argentinians didn't want to face the fact that they lost, they came up with a bunch of conspiracy nonsense. I thought Italy vs. Germany was the best match of the WC personally.

I think that the game was a big cheat but even if they would have gone to overtime the US could have still one even though it was unlikely because nobody seems to remeber that the US was one man down with the red card to bradely(i think it was him)

In my honest opinion, I believe that the goal was called an offside because those in charge couldn't afford not to have a Mexico vs. USA final.

I can't believe the Canadian team didn't rip the referee into shreds.

My respect for Canada grew many fold after this tournament. I think they might just grab the 4th Concacaf spot in the next world cup.

By the by, BS calls sometimes go against you and you have to deal with it. Trust me, no one knows that better than the American soccer fans. US dominated much of the game tonight anyway. So you can't really say we would've lost, had the game gone to extra time. Better luck next time.

I agree that the he was not offside, but the US has gotten no breaks in the Gold Cup...the refs have had it in for the US in several games.

why were you robbed? i agree the last minute call by the reff was bad, but seriously the USA outplayed Canada for most of the Match. look just accept the lose and move on. I hope Canada has a better Run Next time

I'm a huge US fan but I don't feel like my team won that game.
I feel like a good team was cheated and the bigger team (USA) was given preferencial treatment.
Anyway, its football and we have to get on with it.

You can recall in the last world cup that Italy was given a free penalty against Australia. Why? Italy was the bigger team.
Its not good for the game of football.
