Just a question?

Okay, this is just a question, and my opinion, so please don't get angry with me. I believe in God, and don't want to upset Him, but there's something about Christianity that I need to ask. I don't really consider myself a Christian though.

I really really like Elton John, I have for quite a while. I get criticized alot for it by my dad. He goes on about Elton being gay. Is it wrong for me to like Elton? My dad annoys me a bit because is isn't perfect, but he's constantly going on "Elton John is gay." "Homosexuality is an abomination." (He loves the word abomination.)

It upsets me. Even though Elton John says alot of things that I don't agree with I still like him, and even care about him. Its almost as if we're family. But I get criticized. My dad acts as if I'm gay. (I'm a girl by the way.)

Do you think its right for a "christian to act like their better than others? I don't think I'm any better than Elton John is.

If my dad knew some things I've said and done, he would probably look down on me as well. I have struggled with alot of things, and one of those things is bisexuality and lesbian thoughts. If I told my dad that he would go on even more about how sinful and wrong gay thoughts are. Help me please.

Why do alot of Christians think their better than everyone else? Homosexuality is an abomination, but some of them go around lying, swearing, being disrespectful, and being rude. My dad says that there are certain sins worse than other sins. Murder and adultery are in the top five category, and lying and stealing in the bottom five. Where in the Bible does it mention that?

What do you think about my dad thinking I'm possessed? My dad told me that liking Elton John is demonic. What do you think about that? I don't agree with homosexuality at all, but I don't agree with my dad's attitude about Elton John. I love my dad. I want to respect him.

I am a Christian too honey, and it is difficult walking the walk of a Christian. The faith can fan off into different beliefs, such as, some believe in no make up, others, no dancing, and on and on, but the bottom line is that as a Christian, we believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior, period. We accept Him as our Savior, and in doing so, we can be the most judgmental bunch of people that drive others nuts! I have lived my life on this earth for many, many years. I love my Lord and my Savior, and accept all of God's creations, man or beast on this earth. Your dad is your dad, and you know you must honor him as such. He is critical, but he feels he is teaching you ethics and morals as his child. I love Elton John too. I know he is gay, however, I don't condone his life style. You could say to dad, I love his music, however, I don't want to live his life style and I know it isn't our way of living. I let my four children listen to rock and roll as they were growing up and they are solid in their faith to this day. I hope this helps some how, sharing my thoughts. Just remember, dad is dad always, you gotta love him for wanting what is best for you!

Elton John was married to a woman once but she treated him like crap or cheated on him thats what i heard

another story - a man who basically cooked and cleaned after this woman all she did was curl her hair/do her hair, her nails polished etc, finally he had enough said he was gay.

I've seen that and more and know enough to know that being gay is a choice and those who want to say it isnt arent just of the devil but will have short lives I'm sure as it says the wicked dont live out half their days.

Now as for Elton John your dad can say things to you but ultimately what you should be worried about is the choices that you make. If your that worried about what your dad says ignore him, dont talk to him then obviously.

I think you should try out Job Corps if that doesnt work try a local store that is a combined gas station they usually have great benefits like the one around here which can help you get into college.

I dont think you quite understand the word abomination as much as you may think..I think your dad loves you and just doesnt want you to fall into the wrong crowd. Elton John is not that nice of a guy I've seen him do gross peverse things and if you consider that a role model ...however at the same time I do not know him or his life I simply ignore it and I hate gossiping about other peoples lives but I for one do not think a man should be worshipped as if he was God himself not to mention he is no where near a bible as far as his life. We will all be judged by God by the things we do the choices we make I think sometimes parents can go over the deep end. Instead maybe sit down and try to have a serious talk with your dad about how this is bothering you. If he doesnt care or has indifference then you need to do whats best for both of you and either let it go or move on! people disown their parents all the time and vice versa.

You can love your enemy that is a hard task if anything commendable but at the same time do not try to say they are a good person if they aren't and don't try to put them on a pedestal because we all are judges but God is the final. Thats just how life is you either grow up or you dont. Make your choices. I can tell you after 20 years of thinking God was the bad guy I can tell you otherwise of all the things ive been thru and seen.

If a christian is ACTING like they are better than others you should know that God is their final judge not you. However you can either avoid them or uplift them - you shouldnt go around gossiping though. And I do believe it says some where in the bible that there will be lovers of self and gossipers in the end times?

And of course you wouldnt think your any better than Elton John cuz we all sin but we have to repent - and we shouldnt really be WORRYING about how Elton John Is going to be judged by God!!!! but worry about yourself.

judge not lest ye be judged! - meaning if your going to take the time to judge and nit pick every thing you are going to be by God!

I believe in myself, and that is all that matters to me. Sure, I seek encouragement from others sometimes, but I do not practice religion.

I don't believe that being a religious person forgives anyone for their crimes, it is more like an easy way out. I don't believe that being religious makes a person any better than anyone else either.

Self-confidence is something that you should believe in and practice everyday, and it really only matters to yourself. Those people who try to knock someone else down for no apparent reason have issues with themselves, whether it is envy or just a grudge.

Don't worry too much about what your dad's opinion is, just let him have his two cents back, and pay your attention to things that really matter.

I would be willing to bet that your Father's Father (your Grandfather) hated his musical tastes too. Elton John is a wonderful person, kind and good, and he has supplied the world with wondrous music that will last for generations. Love who you love and feel no guilt. Even if you are gay, feel no guilt. You are normal in every way. And you are loved.

You are captured in a funny situation. To be or not to be is the Question now. I fully understand your emotions. The question is, How much you are involved in ? In my opinion, if you are seriously involved and have full faith, just go with your friend. And don't bother about the world and what you father is critisising. Ultimately, your father will not come to your rescue till the end. It is just out of his love towards you and deep feelings, he is behaving like that. So, earlier the better. Don't delay your decision. Act fast and conquer your life.

It it is a shame that some people (even "professed Christians:) have a need (based on insecurity) to judge others and not show compassion.
One of the main messages in the Bible is to not to Judge others ...that is Gods Job.

Maybe the, next time your Father needs to use his "Christinity" as a weapon against another person, to "feel" like he is in some way better or superior, he needs to be reminded what his BIBLE says about judgement of others ,compassion and "love"

the only one who can pass judgement on any man or woman is GOD, no one else (even religions, they arent god).

so i say listen to whatever you enjoy, live by the things that make you happy.... and ignore everyone else who tries to take that from you.
