You are not actually voting for a candidate you are voting for electors who are sworn to vote for a specific candidate. each State has a certain number of electors. Example if your State has 10 Congressmen and 2 Senators then your State has 12 Electors. Thereby assuring all the States have some reasonable voice in the election of the President.

the popular vote will be overturned by the electoral college...but i think that if the electoral college does not vote unanimously then some other important power in the government will choose the prez...but i am not sure about that...but if the electoral college chooses the president contrary to popular vote then the people are...pretty much screwed...okay?? peace...

It is very possible for this to happen. It happened in 2000 with Bush and Gore. Gore won the popular, but Bush won the electoral. That is why we are not a true democracy but a Constitutional Republic.

It doesn't matter, the person they vote for still wins.. look at the Presidential Election of 2000- that was won by Electoral votes not the popular vote

He gets elected! Many, many times the electoral college has outdone the popular vote.

nothing significant, the person who's chosen by the electoral college becomes president.
usually, however, the losing party will be very upset--pointing out that it's undemocratic.
keep in mind that this is independent of the 2000 election.

Yes it is, that's why there is an electoral college. So New York City And Los Angeles don't select every president, its our system, and it works!

we get an idiot like Bush in our White House. Bush has been in over his head since elected. Thank God his days are numbered , now. Most certainly and unrefutably the most dishonet, damaging, failed President in USA history. it's a little coincidental that his brother's state was missing votes and was the deciding ( electoral ) factor , aswell. It's also obvious that there is a GOP biased in the thumbs up/thumbs down thing here. Nobody's fooled here.

Electors have the authority to vote for whoever they want to. It's their constitutional power.
