US's humor and UK's humor are completely different. For example, just like those shows you mentioned aren't funny in UK, Monty Python and several of the other shows I've seen on PBS and other stations don't really fly with American viewers.

Hey, hey, hey, now wait a minute! Ive been watching U.K. show for years! The first time I watched 'Are you being served' I thought my jaw would fall off, it hurt from laughing so much! And I loved 'Faulty Tower's,' John Cleese was a hoot!'As time Goes By'. I loved Judi Dench! And of course 'Keeping up Appearances' was great!
But we in the U.S. have some funny show too! Our version of ' Who's line is it anyway' is good! Although my daughter likes the English version better! "Home Improvement' was good! I can't say I like all of our comedies, but I do like some of them! But I don't like the canned laughter either, and I never have! The audience Knows when something is funny, and they also know if it isn't!

Actually I think everyone has got a different sense of humour, I think all of those mentioned are funny but i totally love Phoenix nights, Spaced and the Royle family none of which would go down too well in America!

I love US comedy, I do notice a difference in the humour though

I hate canned laughter too, when the 'audience' laugh when I did not find it laughter!

I prefer comedies where there is no laughter, that will make you laugh yourself instead of laughing with the audience.

I totally think that UK and USA find different things funny. Brits have a more dry sense of humor, love things that are play on words. Also love slapstick and silliness more.

Fraisier not funny! Well that's a new one.

Do you mean that the Americans don't find things funny like we do? Lets say the Office or Monty Python!

Don't forget that in the UK, the only US comedy shows we get are those that are sufficiently "popular" in the US. I mean, most of them are going to be mainstream cheesy pap aren't they?

The only good thing about the USA is that Jimmi Hendrix was born there.

Just to point out, the laughter on F.R.I.E.N.D.S is real - it's filmed in front of a studio audience.
